Tip of the Day: Ask for Discounts!

While you may feel uncomfrotable the first time or two you do it, you will be amazed how much money you can save simply by asking retailers if they offer any discounts.  I think it surprises most people how many businesses offer discounts to military, students of all ages, teachers (home school too!), non profit organizations, firemen and police officers, medical professionals and many more.  All you have to do is ask “Do you offer any discounts to a particular group of people such as military, etc.?”  Even if a company doesn’t, they may decide that it might be a good idea to start if they recieve enough inquiries.  Some companies set aside specific days every year for different groups of people so by asking, you may be able to get a heads up on a day you will want to come back.  I have only been military for about 8 months and I am regularly shocked and the companies that offer discounts that I didn’t expect:

Seams Like Home offers Active Duty Military a 15% discount,
Some Wendy’s and Starbucks locations give military discounts as well.
Movie theaters offer great discounts to Military.  You could also inquire about getting reduced rates for school groups.
Many resturaunts have teacher/ military/ public servant days.
Most craft stores offer teacher discounts.
Bookstores can be a great place for teacher or student discounts.
Home Depot and Lowes offer military discounts (although this varies some by location).
And many more!

Do you know of any business, local or national, that offers special discounts? Please let us know!
