I was so excited to discover that Red Box has fianlly come to Alaska! Renting DVD’s from Red Boxes was one of my favorite cheap/free things to do before I moved up here. If you are unfamiliar with them, I will give you a little Red Box 101 lesson:
- Red Boxes are essentially DVD vending machines where you can choose from about 100 movies to rent. The charge for rentals is $1/ day and you have until 9 pm the following evening to return DVDs.
- In order to rent you simply select the movie that you wish to get, swipe your credit card and then you will get your DVD. It is so easy and fast!
- There are Red Boxes at dozens of locations now in Alaska (and thousands of places accross the country). In order to find a location near you, go here and enter your zip. I know Holiday stations have them and some Fred Meyers as well as Walgrees (but not all).
- You can also go online to view what is currently inside the Red Boxes. You canthen reserve a copy at the location of your choice to ensure that it is there when you arrive to pick it up.
- The best part about Red Box is that they have free codes that allow you to get the first night of a rental free (which is totally free if you only rent for one night). Two codes are DVDONME and BREAKROOM. You can only use these codes once per credit card. If you sign up for their emails then you will also get one free code at the beginning of each month. DVDatWag also works at Red Boxes at Walgreens locations.
Alright All, there is your lesson. Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to help you out! And remember, as long as you remember to return your movie, you should be able to get at least one free rental/ month!

i have several Catalinas for free movie rentals from red box, not sure how I got them, but they came from Freds. Maybe I can find a way to use them and I hope we have a location here in FBX.
