Purchase vs. Transaction

We recently has a comment left about the My Little Pony deal and we wanted to clear up a little terminology confusion.  I was getting all ready to write a post on this when Kara did a lovely job explaining it in a comment.  Here is the original comment left by a reader:

It didn’t work so well for me. There was a little clause on the coupon that said “limit one per purchase” GRR!! Still, $9 for 3 ponies was a nice little treat.

And here is what Kara said to help clear up the mess:

Sounds like you had a cashier that just needed a little education! One per purchase simply means only one can be used per item purchased. It does NOT mean one per transaction. So if you purchased 2 (which you did) then per the terms of the contract you should have been able to use 2 of the B2g1 store deals… and 3 of the b1g1 coupons.   Purchase vrs transaction is terminology that trips people up once in a while, it’s confusing sounding!

eHow words it better than I am:

“The most commonly misunderstood phrase on a coupon in “one per purchase.” What this actually means is one per item. You are purchasing each item, are you not? So each item, no matter how many you have, is a purchase. It does NOT means one per transaction. If it meant that it would say so. Cashiers and even many managers misunderstand this phrase. If yours do be sure to politely ask them to check with their corporate office. Even better, pull our your phone and offer to call with them!”

We hope that clears up any confusion for you!

Hmmm… I am normally an Abbott location shopper too but haven't had problems. I guess I would try asking the manager to explain the problem? (Or it may be easier to try to work directly with the cashier). Sometimes I have to explain to them that the B1G1 free is a store sale which is just, in effect, giving me my items at half off. and then I am using a man. coupon (which they are reimbursed for) on top of that. it's legit! I'm sorry you're having troubles!

So I have asked this before but when you use a coupon for the B1G1 free sales do you get lucky when they take yours? Everytime I try they tell me you can not use a coupon for something that is going to be free? I have talked to the store manager and he has told me they can not. Have they changed there policy? I usually go to the abbott location? What can I do to get the good deals too???
